Problem Based Learning
Reinventing the Classroom Experience at Mount Vernon STEAM Academy (MVSA)
The Mount Vernon STEAM Academy provides an exciting problem-based learning approach that integrates all subject areas around the Grand Engineering Challenges from the National Academies of Engineering and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Students implement the 4 C’s (collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking) across content areas to develop cohesive and personalized solutions to these global STEAM issues.
Mount Vernon STEAM Academy (MVSA) utilizes the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) pathways and curriculum in computer science, engineering, and biomedical science to engage students in hands-on activities, projects, and problems; empower them to solve real-world challenges; and inspire them to reimagine how they see themselves. Project Lead The Way (https://www.pltw.org/) provides transformative learning experiences for students and teachers across the U.S. We create an engaging, hands-on classroom environment and empower students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive. Our professional development for teachers provides training, resources, and support to engage students in real-world learning.
