STEAM Academy hosts Army Fitness Day

National STEAM Day is this week, but students explore scientific concepts through hands-on lessons and projects almost every day at Mount Vernon STEAM Academy! Read more for more info about the experiments conducted Steven Glinias's and Brian Adler's science classes today.

On October 30, the United States Army sent a few of their soldiers to educate STEAM Academy students about the importance of fitness.

Seven STEAM Academy students listened intently on Tuesday morning to a Lehman College math instructor who engaged them in a spirited lecture on quantitative reasoning as part of the Lehman Scholars Program, which teaches the high schoolers courses for college credit.

On Monday morning, seniors at the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy celebrated their last day of classes and enjoyed a lovely end-of-year BBQ. Although it was raining, seniors enjoyed their morning by playing ball games, mingling with other students and enjoying a treat of hot dogs and burgers made by teachers and school staff. Students also passed around their yearbooks for others to sign, as this was the last day they will see one another until graduation on June 25.

Families of senior scholars assembled in the auditorium of the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy on Thursday evening to celebrate their students' accomplishments and feats from the school year. During the Senior Awards Convocation, over 85 students received awards and scholarships for their outstanding commitment to academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.

Students at the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy ran into some welcome traffic Monday morning – by listening to a detailed presentation by a transportation engineer who seeks to ease congestion on the region’s roads.

On May 28, 2025, ninth graders at the Mount Vernon STEAM Academy got to visit the New York Botanical Garden on an academic reward trip. These students had zero suspensions, high attendance, and were named on the honor roll, high honor roll, or principal’s honor roll. 
 

To wrap up Mental Health Awareness Week, Mount Vernon STEAM Academy invited students to partake in mental wellness activities in the “Zenbrary.” For the Zenbrary, the library was lined with stations for arts and crafts and mental health and wellness exercises such as aromatherapy.
